Have you been wondering why people leave stickers on newly purchase baseball caps? Well it seems to be the new trend.  Leaving the sticker on a cap is nothing like the fashion faux par of leaving a label sewn on the sleeve of a newly purchased coat. In fact it is now the cool and hip thing to do.

Originally, stickers were designed for practical reasons, including:

  • displaying the size of the cap
  • identifying he brand and style
  • helping retailers manage stock
  • demonstrating authenticity on premium brands

For fitted caps, the sticker often showed the exact size, making it easier for customers to find the right fit without trying on multiple caps.

Why do some people leave the sticker on?

This is where fashion and popular culture come in.

Leaving the sticker on became popular through hip-hop and streetwear culture in the 1990s and early 2000s, particularly with premium fitted caps. For some, it became a style statement, while others saw it as a way of showing the cap was new or authentic.

Today, there is no universal rule. Some people leave the sticker on, while others prefer a cleaner look by removing it before wearing the cap.

Should you leave the sticker on?

There isn’t a right or wrong answer.

Removing the sticker won’t damage the cap, nor will leaving it on improve its quality. It’s simply a matter of personal preference.

One thing to keep in mind is that after extended exposure to sunlight, the fabric beneath the sticker may fade differently from the surrounding material. If the sticker is removed much later, a faint outline can sometimes remain.

Do promotional and branded caps come with stickers?

Many branded caps supplied for businesses and organisations arrive with the manufacturer’s standard labels or stickers, depending on the brand and style.

For promotional headwear, these stickers are often removed before distribution, allowing the finished product to present a clean, professional appearance. However, some premium retail-inspired styles retain their original branding, while fully customised headwear can even incorporate bespoke stickers or labels as part of the design.
